The Desert Dungeon Quest

The classic free-account team quest: one player of each vocation crosses the Desert Dungeon under the Jakundaf Desert, places a vocation item on each basin and pulls the lever for a reward room. Level 20, no premium needed.

Requirements at a glance

Level
20

20 is the gate. Anything above it is fine — the monsters on the short path are weak, which is why this is a free-account classic.

Team
Needs a team

One player of each vocation: a sorcerer, knight, druid and paladin, plus a monk if your party has one. The wiki says 4–5 players. You cannot solo it.

Quests
  • No other quest is required.1
Bring
  • A shovel (for the entrance) and a rope (recommended — a few holes do not have a way back up).1
  • One vocation item per player, which is destroyed at the end: a Spellbook (sorcerer), Sword (knight), Red Apple (druid), Crossbow (paladin) and a pair of Monk Fists (monk). Do not bring your real weapon.1
  • About 43.5 free capacity to carry what is in the reward chest.1

Before you start

The gotchas and shortcuts that save the most time — worth two minutes before you set off.

  • This guide covers the short path, which is what almost everyone does and leads to the same reward room as the full quest. The long path (Hagor, the Netlios library, Adrenius’s test) is entirely optional and is summarised at the end.1
  • You can do the quest any number of times, but you are rewarded only once per character. You can still help other teams as one of their vocations.1
  • Only go down a hole when this guide says to. The dungeon is large and several holes have no rope hole back up. Take a wrong one and you may be roped out alone and not able to rejoin the team.1
  • If the team cannot finish, the only way out is the teleport next to the Gate of Expertise, which takes you to Adrenius on the surface.1
  • The stairs out of the reward room do not have a staircase back in. Once you leave you are locked out unless you redo the quest, so loot first. On PvP worlds the reward room and its steps are protection zones, but the desert outside is a common ambush spot.1
  • The older copy of the wiki page says the reward is 100 platinum coins. That matches the current page’s 25 platinum coins per participating vocation for a party of four.12
  • The older copy of the page describes a four-vocation quest with a 100-coin reward and no Monk. The current wiki adds a Monk basin and says 4–5 players. We could not confirm whether a party of four still works without a monk, so the safe plan is: bring one of every vocation you can.12

Part 1: Getting into the dungeon

The quest begins in the open desert between Venore and Thais. Gather your party at the entrance before anyone goes down.

  1. 1With one of each vocation, go to the Jakundaf Desert between Venore and Thais. In the middle of the desert, open the Loose Stone Pile and drop down.1
  2. 2Go down four more times to reach a floor with Spiders. This floor can also hold Fire Devils and Bonelords, but the correct route below avoids them.1

Part 2: The short path

Follow the route in order. The wiki also has a map of it, which is worth keeping open while the team walks.

  1. 1Go north, then turn east as soon as you can. Follow the cave south to find the first ladder up.1
  2. 2Go up the ladder, then west to find another ladder. Do not go down the hole to the south with the Warning Sign.1
  3. 3Go south and up the next ladder. Then go east, then north, until you find a hole — do not go down it.1
  4. 4Continue east and north again and follow the path to the final ladder. You may meet a Slime on this floor.1

Part 3: The vocation room

The level 20 Gate of Expertise leads to the room with the basins. Each player puts their item on their own basin and then steps on the tile.

  1. 1Walk through the Gate of Expertise. Every player needs level 20 to pass.1
  2. 2Sorcerer: place the Spellbook on the east basin, then step on the tile. Knight: place the Sword on the south basin. Druid: place the Red Apple on the west basin. Paladin: place the Crossbow on the north basin.1
  3. 3Monk: click the tile in the middle of the room. A hidden platform and a center basin appear. Place the Pair of Monk Fists on it, then step on the tile.1
  4. 4The switch only counts if the correct item is on the basin before you stand on the tile. If it does not press, step off, check the item and step back on.1
  5. 5When every switch is pressed, the paladin pulls the lever in front of their tile. All players are teleported to the reward room.1

Part 4: The reward room

  1. 1There are two chests, one west and one east. One holds a Golden Bag with 25 platinum coins for each vocation that took part. The other holds a Green Bag with a Protection Amulet, a Ring of Healing, a Magic Light Wand and an Ankh.12
  2. 2Check your free capacity (about 43.5) before you open them.1
  3. 3Leave by going north and up the stairs. You arrive back in the Jakundaf Desert, and cannot walk back in.1

Optional: the long path

It leads to the same reward room and is only worth doing for the lore. It is shorter here than on the wiki.

  1. 1In the dungeon, find Hagor, ask him about Morrin and give him a Roll. He gives you Key 4022. Use it on the door, then take Key 4009 from the chest.1
  2. 2Open the library with Key 4009 and read Netlios’s books, Dangers of Adventures. A switch in the library must be held by another player while you search for the missing book.1
  3. 3Find Adrenius on the surface, ask about Netlios and pay 500 gp for his test. Every answer is in Netlios’s books. Passing gives you Key 4023.1
  4. 4With four players, open the door with Key 4023. Each player takes their own teleporter and faces two monsters: Orc Berserkers (knight), Minotaur Archers (paladin), Fire Devils (sorcerer), Bears (druid). Signs tell you which items to fetch from outside, then you place them and pull the lever as in the short path.1

Rewards

  • A Golden Bag with 25 platinum coins per participating vocation (100 for a party of four).12
  • A Green Bag with a Protection Amulet, Ring of Healing, Magic Light Wand and Ankh.12
  • The rewards can be taken once per character.1
