The Secret Library Quest

The Summer Update 2018 access quest: six independent missions unlock Zathroth’s Secret Library, the Falcon Bastion and four other hunting areas, plus the Battle Mage outfit. Level 250 and premium.

Written from 9 sources in 3 languages, all listed at the bottom · last reviewed 2026-09-30

What this unlocks

  • The Secret Library — Zathroth’s hidden library under the White Raven Monastery, and its five bosses.12
  • Falcon Bastion — the Falcon Knight/Paladin hunting ground, and daily Grand Master Oberon.139
  • Deep Desert — Skeleton Elite Warriors and Undead Elite Gladiators, west of Darashia.1
  • Ancient Ancestorial Grounds — the Deathling area below Gray Beach.1
  • The Extension Site — the Museum of Tibian Arts dungeon (Retching Horrors, Hellhounds, Furies, Demons).1
  • Asura Palace underground — the Asura Vaults beneath the palace.12

Requirements at a glance

Level
250Premium

250 is the hard gate. For the access missions with a team, 350+ is comfortable; the Secret Library bosses are realistically a 500+ job.

Team
Needs a team

Up to 5 players for Grand Master Oberon, Brokul and each of the four library bosses; up to 10 for the final battle. The Furious Scorpion in The Path of Defiances is strictly solo.

Quests
  • Liquid Black Quest — complete the first mission. (Starting it may be enough, but finishing it costs little and removes the doubt.)12
  • The New Frontier Quest — needed only for the Zao Steppe shortcut into the Falcon Bastion, not for the quest itself.12
  • The Lost Brother Quest — required before The Lament. Easy to miss: it is usually buried inside the mission text rather than listed as a requirement.21
  • Asura Palace Quest — required before The Lament.1
  • Cults of Tibia Quest — the Prosperity mission must be started. Commonly left off requirement lists, so check it before you travel.2
Bring
  • A bucket, plus two other liquid containers holding blood and water (for the Falcon Bastion ritual).125
  • A red non-metallic armor — a Firemind Raiment, or a plain Doublet for 16 gp. Needed to make The Diamond Blossom vulnerable in The Lament.12
  • Food — at least three different kinds (ham, brown mushrooms, apples and meat all work). The statue puzzle in The Path of Defiances needs three separate items placed, so variety is what matters; bring a decent stack anyway for the trip.12
  • A Dwarven Ring is recommended — poison immunity for the desert stretch.2
  • A Depth Galea or Helmet of the Deep for the Ghulosh fight — his Death Beam deals drown damage.18
  • A scythe to open the library itself. A Secret Service Tool does not work here.12

Before you start

The gotchas and shortcuts that save the most time — worth two minutes before you set off.

  • The hard gate is level 250 and premium, and nothing else. Everything else you will read about levels is advice: 350+ with a team is comfortable for the six access missions, the Secret Library bosses afterwards are realistically a 500+ job, and the 400 often quoted is about hunting the Falcon Bastion once you are in — not about getting access.1269
  • Do every prerequisite in the list above, including Asura Palace and the Prosperity mission of Cults of Tibia. Requirement lists in the wild frequently omit one or the other, and being short a prerequisite is what turns people away at The Lament after they have already travelled.12
  • The six missions are independent — any order works. Do the team missions while you have a team and keep The Path of Defiances and High and Dry, which are solo-friendly but need night time, for when you are alone.2
  • Food is about variety, not quantity: three different kinds covers the statue puzzle. A large stack of one food will not.12
  • The Lament has a shortcut — you can take the Piece of Ebony and the Skull without killing the three True Asuri bosses, which turns the longest mission into a twenty-minute one. It has worked for years but looks unintended, so pack the red non-metallic armor and Silver Chimes in case it is gone when you get there.17
  • Treat Grand Master Oberon as a daily boss that resets on server save. A 20-hour cooldown is sometimes quoted for him; that figure belongs to the Brass-Shod Chests in the Bastion and is not confirmed even there, so do not build a routine around a rolling 20-hour clock.63
  • There are nine volumes of The Grand Master of Verbal Debate, numbered I to IX, and you need all nine ripostes for Oberon. You will see “eight” stated in places — it is wrong.14
  • Pick up Key 0909 from the chest you open after killing Grand Commander Soeren on the Bastion rooftop, and hold on to it on the way out — players behind you close the doors.15

Start here: Dedoras in Cormaya

Dedoras is a nomad south-east of Cormaya. He is the hub for the whole quest: he names the six leads, and he is who you report back to at the end. You do not have to visit him before starting the missions, but talking to him first is the only way the story makes sense.

  1. 1Find Dedoras south-east of Cormaya and say `hi`, then `search`. He names six leads: the museum in Thais, the Darashian desert, rumours about fishmen, an ancient order, the mysterious asuri, and a lost isle.12
  2. 2Say each lead keyword to him in turn — `museum`, `desert`, `fishmen`, `order`, `asuri`, `isle` — to hear what each mission is about.12
  3. 3The six missions are independent and can be done in any order. This is the single most useful fact about the quest: you can slot missions around whatever team you manage to assemble.2
  4. 4The order below front-loads the missions that need a team: Liquid Death → Bursting at the Seams → The Lament → The Order of the Falcon → The Path of Defiances → High and Dry. The last two are the solo-friendly, night-gated ones, so they are what to leave for when you are on your own.2

Mission 1: Liquid Death

The fishmen lead. Ends in a five-player boss fight against Brokul.

  1. 1Go to Edron, talk to Spectulus, ask about `rumours` and say `yes`.1
  2. 2Travel to the Deathlings’ Sunken Temple north of Banuta. Jump into the water vortex, go up the stairs, and fight to the centre room of the lower floor.1
  3. 3In the room with the twines: stand on the tile east of the twines, face west, and levitate up (`exani hur up`). You land in a small room with the Large Seashell Book — wait for the quest log update.1
  4. 4Report back to Spectulus: talk about `rumours`, then `Njey`.1
  5. 5Travel to Gray Beach, go down the hole east of the beach, down the ramps, and on to the Deepling Ancestorial Grounds.1
  6. 6Repair 9 Broken Idols scattered across the two floors (just use them) to earn the right to fight Brokul.1
  7. 7Worth doing: you can repair up to 45 idols before fighting. Every extra idol lowers Brokul’s starting health, so a team that is borderline on damage should keep going rather than rush the portal.1
  8. 8Enter the portal on the western side of the cave and kill Brokul with up to 5 players. Neutral Deepling Warriors spawn during the fight and will attack the boss — leave them alive and let them help.1
  9. 9Everyone in the party loots The True Book of Death.12

Mission 2: MoTA — Bursting at the Seams

The museum lead. Four seals under the Museum of Tibian Arts in Thais. No boss, but the third seal is a timed run that will waste your evening if you improvise it.

  1. 1Talk to Gareth at the museum. Become a `patron` if you are not one, then ask about the `extension`, then `problems`, then offer help. He opens the sealed door to the Fire Portal.1
  2. 2First seal. Go west, follow the hall north to the big Bone Lever and use it — nothing happens yet. Return to Gareth and ask about `bone`; he tells you the mechanism is a category-3 bone lever.1
  3. 3Back in the dungeon, clear the centre room (4 Hellhounds), use the lever there, then run back and use the Bone Lever before it resets. Kill the creatures first — the run is short but the lever resets in seconds.1
  4. 4If several players need this access, stagger the final step by a few seconds each so the lever is in the right position for everyone.1
  5. 5Second seal. Downstairs, walk around the water to the north-east and pick up the Bony Rod — you need it for the third seal. Demons spawn on this floor.1
  6. 6Mine the blue crystals with a pick to get a Yellow, Green or Red Energy Ball. Use each on its matching basin: yellow → west, green → centre, red → east. Balls vanish about a minute after mining, so focus one colour at a time near its basin.1
  7. 7Walking into the teleport without all three basins lit sends you back to the basin, which by then may be full of creatures. Split the team across the three basins if the spawn is too much alone.1
  8. 8Third seal — read this before starting. Take the Ruby Fire Stone from the chest in the far west and use it on the Bony Rod immediately or it vanishes. Then carry the charged rod east, recharging it on every Coal Basin you pass, and use it on the empty basin at the eastern end.1
  9. 9Run the south corridor without stopping to fight; Energy Bomb Runes let you skip most of it. If the rod loses its charge you need a fresh Ruby Fire Stone, and that has a 2-minute cooldown.1
  10. 10Fourth seal. The teleport drops you among 10+ Lava Golems. Walk over the inscriptions in the north-west, then survive 3 minutes in the room before the exit opens. You do not have to kill the golems — they respawn fast, and they will not walk over Energy Bombs.1
  11. 11Leave through the south-east teleport and report `extension` to Gareth, who points you at Dedoras.1

Mission 3: The Lament

The asuri lead, at the Asura Palace. Requires The Lost Brother and the Asura Palace Quest. This is the mission with the well-known shortcut.

  1. 1Use the Wall Mirror on the ground floor of the Asura Palace to reach the secret basement.12
  2. 2Collect three items by falling through cracks: walk east and fall for the Lotus Key; follow the hallway south and fall for the Strand of Hair; unlock the door south with the Lotus Key, go east and fall for the Eye Key.1
  3. 3Unlock the eastern door with the Eye Key, go down two floors, then north and east into the portal to take the Silver Chimes.1
  4. 4The shortcut. You do not have to kill the three True Asuri bosses. Walk into The Diamond Blossom’s room and take the Piece of Ebony, and into The Lily of Night’s room and take the Skull — then leave. The Blazing Rose can be skipped entirely, since her Perfume Flacon is only needed to make The Lily of Night vulnerable.17
  5. 5The shortcut may well be unintended, and the most recent firsthand confirmation we found dates from 2020 — so bring the red armor and Silver Chimes anyway in case it has been patched since.17
  6. 6If you do fight them: equip the red non-metal armor before entering The Diamond Blossom’s portal, and the Silver Chimes (in the shield slot) before The Blazing Rose — the bosses are invincible otherwise. Loot her Perfume Flacon, use it at the Death Portal, and fight The Lily of Night.1
  7. 7Take The Peacock Ballad from the chest in the northern room.1
  8. 8Build the instrument: use the Piece of Ebony on the Skull to get a Bone Fiddle Without Strings, then use the Strand of Hair on that to get the Bone Fiddle.1
  9. 9Use the Bone Fiddle in front of the Purple Portal — confirm you get a quest log update, or it did not register. The portal still will not open, because the ballad is cursed.1
  10. 10Go to Port Hope, find Gail above the depot, and ask about her `daughter` to lift the curse.1
  11. 11Return, play the fiddle at the portal again, enter, and walk in front of the Writing Desk to receive the Secret Map.1

Mission 4: The Order of the Falcon

The ancient-order lead, and the longest mission. Four Falcon leaders inside the castle, a fifth miniboss underground, then Grand Master Oberon. This mission can only be started at night.

  1. 1Night only. The entry ritual works only during in-game night — roughly a 30-minute window from XX:45 to XX:15 server time. You can start this mission without having done any of the others.51
  2. 2Travel to Edron and go up the ramp just north of Wyvern Mountain, then cross the bridge south to a bed of chalk. Use the chalk with an empty bucket to get a Bucket Filled with Chalk (Fine).15
  3. 3At the south-east corner, face south and levitate up (`exani hur up`), then take the stairs to the Falcon Outpost. Open the chest for the Page from a Mystic Book, which describes the ritual.15
  4. 4Perform the ritual on the Falcon symbol painted on the floor: pour the blood, then the water on the joss stick at the south-east of the symbol, then use the bucket of chalk on the upper-right square. You are teleported into the Falcon Bastion.15
  5. 5For a team, only one player needs to pour the blood and water — everyone else just pours chalk.1
  6. 6Collect the nine volumes of *The Grand Master of Verbal Debate* as you clear the castle. They contain the ripostes you need for Oberon, and you will want them before the fight rather than during it.14
  7. 7Also pick up the Can of Grease (opens the gate downstairs) and Key 0909. Watch the floor — stepping on a crack drops you to the floor below.15
  8. 8Kill the four Falcon leaders in order — out of order, the next quest door stays shut. Everyone in the team must do meaningful damage; check for `Your deeds have been noticed.` in your Loot channel. They respawn about every 5 minutes, so a recent kill by someone else just means waiting.15
  9. 91. Grand Commander Soeren — up on the rooftop, in the north-east room.15
  10. 102. Preceptor Lazare — from Soeren, walk south and take the stairs down; he is in a small room east, north of the monks.15
  11. 113. Grand Chaplain Gaunder — down two floors, past the quest door, in the large room to the north (the dining hall).15
  12. 124. Grand Canon Dominus — on the ground floor, go all the way north to a small boat and cross to the island.15
  13. 13Unlock the shortcut while you are here. After Dominus, use the end of the boat to open a permanent route between the Bastion and the Zao Steppe, so you never have to redo the night ritual. Requires The New Frontier Quest.15
  14. 14With all four leaders dead, enter the room connecting to the underground area and kill the Dazed Leaf Golem to the north-west (10,000 HP).135
  15. 15Enter the Electric Sparks to the south. In the north-west of that room — which is shaped like a falcon’s head on the automap — the Mystic Flames are the falcon’s eye. Enter them to reach Oberon’s lever room.15
  16. 16Hold on to Key 0909 on the way out; players sometimes close the doors behind them.5

Mission 5: The Path of Defiances

The desert lead. Four puzzles in the Deep Desert west of Darashia, then a strictly solo boss fight. Skeleton Elite Warriors and Undead Elite Gladiators throughout, and they hit hard.

  1. 1Reach the Deep Desert west of Darashia through the sand vortex. Leave the building south, walk around west, and go down the hole.1
  2. 2Puzzle 1 — invisible path. Starting at the carpet, walk an invisible route around the room to the quest door. A wrong step shows red musical notes and you start over. Take the Ritual Stone Tablet from the chest north of the room.1
  3. 3Puzzle 2 — the corridor. Leave east through the sand corridor and fight through the horde. At the end you re-enter the building and can take the Exultant Ritual Figurine.1
  4. 4Puzzle 3 — carpets. Down the stairs north, past the lava pool: step once on green, twice on red, three times on the blue old carpet. `Access Granted!` confirms it; musical notes mean start again from green. Take the Ritual Sword beyond the teleport.1
  5. 5Puzzle 4 — statues. In the room with four Onelord Statues, place one food item on each of the three southern stone blocks (each statue’s eye lights up), then run to the sealed door east for the Ritual Figurine.1
  6. 6The ritual. Back at the entrance, go up the long stairs west and place all four ritual items on their matching stone sockets to open the four doors east.1
  7. 7Solo boss — Furious Scorpion. You cannot leave without killing it and nobody can help. Alongside it: 4 Skeleton Elite Warriors and 2 Undead Elite Gladiators. You have 5 minutes, and it can hit for over 1,000.1
  8. 8Standard approach is to wall yourself in with Energy Bomb and Poison Bomb Runes so only the boss reaches you. Make the last bomb poison — Undead Elite Gladiators walk over energy fields, and Skeleton Elite Warriors walk over poison, so you need both.1
  9. 9The fight can be retried every 2 hours.1

Mission 6: High and Dry

The lost-isle lead. No combat — but it is gated on in-game night and on a daily cooldown.

  1. 1Talk to Charles in Port Hope, ask for a `shortcut` passage, say `yes`, and pick Edron, Thais, Liberty Bay or Yalahar. The first time you take it you always shipwreck on the right island, west of Meluna.1
  2. 2If you have been to the island before without taking the scroll, later trips do not always shipwreck and may land you on one of four islands. You can only shipwreck once per day.1
  3. 3On the island, go north-west and down the stairs, and take the Sealed Scroll from the Brass-Shod Chest.1
  4. 4Use the Heap of Rubbish to the south to get a Hawser, then use the hawser on the south-east corner of the raft to repair it.1
  5. 5On the south shore, use the Ship’s Telescope — at night only. By day you get "no land in sight" and nothing happens.1
  6. 6Walk onto the raft to sail back to Fibula.1

Finishing: back to Dedoras, and into the library

  1. 1With all six missions done, talk to Dedoras: say `search`, then name each mission, then ask him to `check` the information.1
  2. 2He gives you the Battle Mage outfit and the Battle Mage achievement, and tells you how to get in.12
  3. 3Go to the White Raven Monastery on the Isle of the Kings and into its main altar room. Use a scythe on the right-hand of the two monuments. A Secret Service Tool will not work.12
  4. 4Mind the statues at the library entrance — they fire a beam every few seconds for over 1,000 holy damage.12
  5. 5The four section bosses can be fought by up to 5 players, with a 17-minute limit each. Kill all four to unlock the final battle.1

Boss mechanics

Grand Master Oberon

30,000 HP · 20,000 exp · up to 2,500 damage
  • Up to 5 players via the lever. Physical and verbal at once: three times during the fight he drops to red health, heals completely, summons a Falcon Knight or Paladin, and becomes invulnerable while taunting you in an orange message.15
  • To break each phase, someone must say the correct riposte in the Local Chat or NPCs channel. Correct and he grunts (`GRRRAAANNGH!`); wrong and he laughs (`HAHAHAHA!`) and you fight the invulnerable form again.15
  • The two-hotkey trick. A reply is recognised even when mixed with other replies, so you only need two buttons. Three of the nine ripostes begin with "T" — if his taunt starts with T, send button 1; otherwise send button 2. (A single button for all nine exceeds the message length limit.)15
  • Always drops The Spatial Warp Almanac; also drops the Falcon equipment set (bow, shield, plate, circlet, battleaxe, coif, mace, sai, longsword, greaves, rod, wand) and the Grant of Arms.43
  • There may be a 10-minute limit on the fight. It is reported in one place only, so do not plan on having unlimited time.5

All 9 ripostes

Lokathmor

  • Energy Section, far west before the hunting area. Enter the teleport and pull the Ostentatious Bookstand when ready.1
  • Shortly after you engage, the team is teleported to the centre and trapped by Force Fields. Everyone focus the same Force Field and break out fast — inside the trap Lokathmor detonates for death damage starting around 700 and climbing quickly.18
  • Get at least 2 squares clear of the fields — the blast still reaches 1 square past them, and the fields do not block spells in either direction.1
  • Do not use area attacks near the Force Fields — they reflect damage, and an Ultimate spell can kill the mage casting it. They also barely take death damage, so Sudden Death Runes are wasted.18
  • Kill the Dark Knowledge that spawns north, carry its corpse (Parchment of Dark Knowledge) to the Writing Desk on the west side, and use the desk. That destroys the remaining fields and leaves the boss attackable for about 20 seconds. Repeat until dead.1
  • Station one player permanently at the desk and have whoever kills the Dark Knowledge throw the corpse to a pre-agreed square. Losing one cycle to fumbling the handoff can lose the fight.18
  • Pick a Force Field away from any Knowledge Raider — they can step into the gap and re-seal the trap.1

Mazzinor

  • Earth Section, downstairs south of the Biting Books, then north to the teleport.1
  • Kill Wild Knowledges to leave blue vortexes on the floor — you need at least one per player, so make five before you need them.18
  • Periodically the boss becomes Supercharged Mazzinor and is invulnerable. 8 seconds later the whole room is hit by overlapping energy explosions — worst at the centre.18
  • Step on a vortex to become a Knowledge Elemental and take no damage. The form also lasts 8 seconds, so wait ~2 seconds after the transformation before stepping on — too early and it expires before the blast. You cannot renew it until it runs out.18
  • Call your vortex out loud. Two players taking the same one is the usual way this fight is lost.1
  • Blocker holds Mazzinor near the centre, shooters spread out, everyone throws Stone Shower Runes to hit several Wild Knowledges at once. Do not kill them on top of an existing vortex — it wastes the spawn.18
  • If you miss a vortex, equipping a Shockwave Amulet right before the blast cuts it to 3–5k. It only has 5 charges.1
  • The explosion hits for 8,000 upwards, and as much as 13,000 energy damage when several blasts overlap on your square. Either number kills most characters — take the vortex.18

Ghulosh

  • Fire Section, second floor, south-east room. Bring a Depth Galea or Helmet of the Deep — the damage here is drown.18
  • He transforms into Ghulosh’ Deathgaze, which you cannot damage at all. Instead, destroy The Book of Death in the north to release a Concentrated Death, then line the Deathgaze up with it — its own Death Beam reflects for 6,000–8,600 back at it.1
  • Do not damage the Concentrated Death yourself. It dies easily to stray area damage; if it does, kill the respawned book to get another.1
  • The Deathgaze teleports to the centre if fully trapped. Have the knight Challenge it into a wall corner, then use Magic Wall and Wild Growth Runes to stop it sliding sideways while someone walks the Concentrated Death into position.18
  • The first two reflected hits revert it to Ghulosh immediately. The third requires several hits before it reverts — then you can finish him.18
  • Clear Bone Jaws as they appear so they do not pile up, but ignore Blood Tears — they respawn instantly and are a waste of resources.1

Gorzindel

  • Fire Section, all the way east then south to the teleport.1
  • Attack the Stolen Tome of Portals in the north, ignoring the minions. Gather the whole team next to it before it dies — its corpse becomes a teleport everyone must enter at once, and the boss’s heavy paralysis makes a late run impossible.18
  • Each player lands in a separate room with a Malicious Minion and one of five books, with roughly 4 turns to damage it before being returned.18
  • Destroy all five: Stolen Knowledge of Armor, Healing, Lifesteal, Summoning and Spells. Then the boss is weakened and can simply be killed.18
  • Clear the main room with Avalanche Runes each time you return — minions accumulate and can combo someone down.1
  • Shooters should hug the left wall during the final phase to stay out of the Stolen Tome’s death spell.1
  • For a sense of scale: one reported clear used a team of roughly 700 ED / 600 RP / 550 EK / 550 MS / 380 ED.8

The Scourge of Oblivion (final battle)

  • From the entrance go south, then west, then down several floors to a small room. Unlike the others, this fight allows up to 10 players.12
  • You defend a central chamber against waves while four wings are breached in turn — north-east, south-east, south-west, north-west — each holding a boss. Clear the wing, return to the centre, repeat.12
  • The Spellstealer (NE) is invulnerable in its red and green forms. Lure it onto the matching vortex — green → north-west, red → south-east — to make it attackable, and repeat each time it absorbs power again.1
  • The Scion of Havoc (SE): do not kill the Spawns of Havoc. Each one explodes for 1,000+ and heals the boss. Trap the boss in a corner and have one or two players herd the spawns away.1
  • Brother Chill & Brother Freeze (SW) heal each other and are healed by the Biting Colds. Drag one away and kill it while the rest of the team keeps the other brother and the Colds at distance.1
  • The Devourer of Secrets (NW): do not destroy The Books of Secrets — that strengthens the boss. Actively keep them alive with Mass Healing and Ultimate Healing Runes while you kill the boss.1
  • The Scourge of Oblivion cycles three states. Normal: damage it. Reflective ("activated its reflective shields") — stop attacking immediately. Charging ("prepares a devastating attack") — invulnerable, then fires 7-square death beams north, south, east and west.1
  • Use the invulnerable phases to clear summons off the shooters rather than wasting damage on the boss.1
  • The masterbook in the centre charges every 30 seconds and fires a drown beam north. Most teams ignore it — holding the boss north of it is not worth the damage it adds.1

Rewards

  • Access to the Secret Library, Falcon Bastion, Deep Desert, Ancient Ancestorial Grounds, The Extension Site and the underground Asura Palace.1
  • The basic Battle Mage outfit (male and female), from Dedoras when you report in. Addons come from the separate Battle Mage Outfits Quest.12
  • Achievement Battle Mage for completing the access, and Library Liberator for killing The Scourge of Oblivion.1
  • A Bone Fiddle, built during The Lament and kept afterwards.12
  • The True Book of Death from Brokul and The Spatial Warp Almanac from Oberon.24
  • The Fleeting Knowledge mount: The Scourge of Oblivion can drop a Library Ticket, which tames a Flying Book and grants the Bibliomaniac achievement. Frequently missing from English reward lists.2
  • Achievement Millennial Falcon for the first Grand Master Oberon kill.5
  • Ongoing: the Falcon Bastion is a strong hunting ground (Falcon Knights 6,300 exp / Falcon Paladins 6,900 exp), and Oberon is a daily boss for most players who finish this.39
